The Little Shop of Horrors

Book & Lyrics by Howard Ashman, Music by Alan Menken

by arrangement with Samuel French

'Little Shop of Horrors' is a dark comedy; a parody of life in nineteen fifties USA. The whole play is 'observed' by Ronette and the Crystals - street urchins who are involved and yet remain on the outside looking in.
Seymour, one of life's losers, works at the florists on Skid Row, a seedy district of the city. Audrey is the blonde assistant he is sweet on, and Mushnik is the shop's owner.

Gilly Jeffery, Jane Courtenay, Jane Mackinnon, Shelley Jory and Glynis Norris as the Crystals.

Emma Scott-Copeland as Audrey
and Bryan Newman as Seymour
with 'the plant''
After another disastrous day of not making a single sale, Mushnik decides to close the business down. But their luck suddenly changes when Seymour brings out the plant he has been nuturing and puts it in the window. He names it after the love of his life, Audrey, and calls it an Audrey II. From then on, nothing stays the same. The shop is successful, Seymour is famous and Mushnik is rich. At first, all is well, even when Seymour finds out the secret of the plant. But gradually he finds himself inextricably drawn into doing what the plant wants.
After Audrey's sadistic dentist boyfriend gets eaten, Seymour has to decide what to do - confess or keep quiet. But thoughts of fame and fortune, plus the chance of having Audrey all to himself, make the decision for him. He has to go on, and so he allows himself to be manipulated by the talking plant until the final climatic finale when .......but that would be telling; see the show.
